Others Concept Art

Description

alright... I was doodling in pen and started designing concepts for a couple Others. while researching disorders, I found out that dissociative identity disorder is the new term for what was once known as multiple personality disorder. I find this hilarious because, when I was in therapy as a teenager, my therapist made a note that I might have it, and then someone on DA also mentioned it (not in a rude way.) but after finally finding out what it was, I was like, "I don't have that!" my mood disorder creates some drastic personality changes sometimes, but I DEFINITELY do not have actual individual personalities with their own names and identities. so... screw you therapist. I was a stupid teenager that didn't even wanna be there. XD

so anyway, for DID, I have two designs, and I'd like your input on which one you like better.

design 1 (official):

is a blank and faceless entity that looks like the host, just... faceless. its entire being looks like it came out of a noisy television with poor signal (couldn't really draw it that well). when personalities change, it "flips" like changing the channel, and it will take on the appearance of a different person that represents the personality. they will often share subtle similarities with the Host.

design 2:

a life size, plastic toy doll that looks like the Host. pretty cute, a little creepy if you're afraid of dolls, and is ball jointed and completely posable. it's not a puppet, it moves on its own, and it's mouth is like a wooden nutcracker's. when changing personalities, the head with spin around and change to a different head, the one representing the personality (like the mayor of Halloween town, except you can't see a face on the back of the head). the rest of the body remains the same, even if the personality is another gender.

narcolepsy:

a tough one. it's listed as a neurological disorder, which is different than a psychological disorder. however, it's also a sleep disorder, and sleep disorders are characterized as psychological disorders. so is it both??? should it count? I like the concept, but if it's not psychological... anyway, if it DOES count, here's what they'd be:

extremely heavy lidded eyes, alarming bags and shadows, and eyes are slightly bloodshot from lack of proper sleep. they are ALWAYS tired and groggy, their muscles seem to be loose, so they trudge around, move slowly, and with lack of effort. sometimes their muscles will just loosen completely, and they collapse, as does the Host. the Host is also usually very tired, but can function a little better than the Other. they will fall asleep without warning during the day, and when they do, so will the Host. at night, the Other and Host will wake up multiple times, not having any sort of restful sleep, if any at all. but they dream VERY vividly. the Other's hair is "cloudy," meaning it seems to vary in shades of whatever color it is, and the colors move slowly like clouds in the wind. it also tends to be unkempt. they're very pale, and their clothes are a pajama version of what the Host is wearing. shoes are always slippers.

schizoid personality disorder (FINAL DESIGN): reitanna-seishin.deviantart.co…

tourette's (forgot the apostrophe on the paper):

they act relatively normal, but they have metal springs growing out of their feet, poking through any shoes. their bones are possibly made of metal. the eyes are like... I guess like Whismur's: www.bing.com/images/search?q=w… except turned 45 degrees. I'm unsure of the color scheme right now, but I'd like to think it changes with every tic. the Host experiences a tic whenever the springs spontaneously deploy. the Other gets a nice shock from it, and then is quite flustered afterward. the tics might be "felt" seconds before they happen, sort of like an oncoming sneeze, and SOMETIMES can be suppressed. the tics also vary depending on the individual, and are not always vocal... also not always unacceptable language. T_T the Other's springs don't propel them too high into the air, just a bounce that lifts them up about a foot, and they land safely. they themselves don't exude the tic that the Host does.

now, autistic disorder is just one of many forms of autism on the spectrum, but even so, it can be different depending on individuals, so this is difficult to put into a physical form. I also don't want to offend anyone. I've only known a few people in person who had some form of autism, and even after research, I'm not fully educated on it. to anyone who has this specific form of autism (or have a sibling), I'd like your input, it would be very helpful.

colors are similar to the Host's, but might periodically change shades slightly. they wear ear muffs around their neck, and put them on when unable to handle a loud sound. the eyes are big circles, and the symbols within change every time their focus changes to something else. the symbols are random, there is no pattern or significance. their mouth is actually a speaker, causing their voices to sound like they're coming from a radio. now, my drawing is repeating "book," but vocalizations differ from person to person, I was just making an example. the Others like to hold onto seemingly pointless objects, and will put a lot of attention and focus into organizing them, or lining them up. the antenna on their head leans toward the object they are focused on, sort of like how potted flowers lean in the direction of the sun. they have trouble socializing, but it's not impossible, and also don't make eye contact too often.

major depressive disorder (official): reitanna-seishin.deviantart.co…

I'm pretty set on this design. they look very similar to manic depressive Others, but with key differences. the eyes are white with no pupils, and the sclera are black. eyes are heavily shadowed, and depending on if the Host has insomnia, they will not need to blink (just like annatier). they always appear very sad, cry often (though length and severity depend on what upset them), and have tear-like markings under their eyes (yes, like the puppet from FNAF). they have sharp teeth and nails like manic depressive Others, but their tongue are like the Host's instead of forked, though are purple like the aforementioned Others. similarly, the skin is white. the color scheme, save for the skin, is like their Host's, but a few shades darker, and unsaturated. their hair is the same style as Host's, but "wilted" in appearance. they tend to be very pessimistic, don't show a lot of positive emotion in vocalizations, tend to watch their feet and slouch a lot, and sigh often. they CAN show happiness, but it's not mania. it's usually when something really good happens to the Host, or after taking candy. other than that, they're rarely smile, and sometimes will still frown slightly when in a better mood.

anorexia:

their color scheme is identical to manic depressive Others; black hair, black and dark grey clothing, white skin, but eyes are dull purple instead of yellow. their eyes are significantly smaller and shadowed. their purple tongues lack saliva, resembling a parrot's tongue. mouths are sewn shut on the ends, making it so they can't open their mouths too wide. this doesn't seem to affect speech in any way. they are EXTREMELY skinny and gaunt, like a skeleton with skin stretched over it, no muscles or fat whatsoever. they're often pretty weak, lethargic, and NEVER eat, only drink water. they encourage their Host's not to ingest anything but water, so the Host's are pretty alarmingly skinny as well depending on the severity. support from the Host's friends will help the Host eat, but their Other gives them shit for it.

so, this is one of the only times I'm asking for critique. remember, critique is when you offer helpful advice to improve the designs, not telling me how much they suck or whatever. most people don't know that, believe it or not. I'm basically asking you for your input on the designs, what I could possibly add or take away, and also personality, ESPECIALLY if you actually have one of these disorders. I can do all the research I want, but it's best to get input from people who actually live with it.

so, which design for DID should I keep, and should narcolepsy count? I will strongly consider suggestions depending on if I think they're appropriate. please don't ask me to draw an Other not shown here, and don't ask what other Others, other than these, look like. how many times can we say "other?" this has to do with these eight specifically.

also, PLEASE BE KIND, especially when reviewing the autism disorder Other. I am trying to be as non-offensive as a human could be, so if I made something about it that truly offends, please tell me.

* Well, I'm aware that this is like 2 years old that this point, but I do think this might be important. Autism is a neurological disorder/condition, more often referred to as "neurodevelopment disorders" (or at least on wikipedia and some other websites). However, I think it should count as an other alongside Narcolepsy, perhaps having a different specification/type then the other others? *
