I could be executed for writing this. Hell, they'd probably throw me in prison just for catching me with a pen and paper. But I have to get this down... I know it's only a matter of time before they realize that I'm a free thinker... and then they'll make sure I never existed.

Ten years ago, the entire world changed. They had been building up to this point, and they were incredibly successful. I saw it comiand I tried my best to tell people that this isn't how we want to live. We don't want to be controlled... but they were already brainwashed.

The government showed their true colors. Libraries and theatres were torn down, artwork and historical artifacts were burned to ashes, and the world's most renowned musicians were gunned down like animals. Oh yea... the animals... you'd be lucky to even find a picture of one, let alone a real one.

Anyone caught with any sort of art, music, unorthodox clothing, stuffed animals, books, religious practice... anything that made someone individual... were considered criminals... and were severely punished. They... they took my children away when they were seen picking up a burnt teddy bear from a sewer grate... they won't even tell me what they've done with them.

Our homes are video and audio monitored. I don't know how I managed to find this blind spot, but I'm taking advantage of it. I don't even know who will find this or if anyone manages to read it before it's destroyed... but I'm desperate.

Our leader is known as the Protector, for he "protects" us from such dangers as emotions and free thoughts. He thinks for us, he feels for us, and he tells how to live our lives for "our own safety." We're forced to keep our televisions on from dawn til dusk to listen to the Protector's inpirational lectures. Then, as we sleep, he have headphones that feed our brains with binaural frequencies to ensure that we don't succomb to our "primitive behaviors."

I've found a way to block them, however. I take a shower before I go to bed, and when I get out to clean my ears with a cotton swab, I manage to very carefully and very discreetly leave the cotton in my ears. It takes two per ear to do the trick. But this combined with putting the headphones on backward keeps my mind open.

They say that there is a resistance in the undergrounds of New London, but this may just be a myth. I want to find them, but I don't know how to get passed the wall. I don't think I'll even live long enough to try and escape.

Idividuality is a crime, independant thought is forbidden, speaking out is blasphemy... but it's our fault. We let this happen. All those decades being forced to fear voicing our opinions, falling into fads to prevent being an outcast, not standing up for our beliefs because we were afraid to suffer the cruelty of our peers... if we had just fought against them, this could've been avoided. But fear made us slave to the morons who made us think it was wrong to be honest and share our opinions, no matter how controversial they were.

The American Flag is now the official flag for every contry in the world. The part that once was blue is now black, the fifty stars were replaced by one big star, the white stripes remain white, but the red ones are a dark grey. "Freedom" is no longer a word in the dictionary.

If anyone manages to read this, please... please come to your senses. They can't control us if they're outnumbered. I want to live my own life, I want to be able to tell someone if I don't like something, I want to be able to defend my thoughts and opinions without being prosecuted...

Everyone needs to stand up for what they believe in and not be afraid to rise above those idiots who dare to tell you to hold your tongue when speaking your mind. Fight them. FIGHT THEM.

They found me... I can hear them trying to knock down the locked door. I will fight. This pen will be my weapon. I don't know how long I'll last, but better to die fighting than live in this shit hole we call a world. I hope a sensible person finds this notebook.

Please... bring peace back to our lives... restore our world. Bring the Protector down.
this is what we're going to become, but we have the power to stop it.

I like your point that self-expression through music, art, writing, clothing, and even stuffed animals is a way of expressing our own thoughts.
People are afraid. They are afraid to be alone, to be the outsider.
But it's better than letting people who don't care about you or your ideas make your decisions.
Stay strong, everyone. You're not alone. We're not alone.

also, is it the Protector, or the Provider? Because in this piece u refer to them in the same context, so i'm not sure if that was an error.

no no, that's exagerated. children were never controlled or became suicidal. the real story is simply that the frequencies cause headaches, nausea, and paranoia. it's worse for kids under twelve, but it makes me nauseous if i listen to it

This would be good, but I think the topic is very highly overused, and so you are writing too much based off of other authors. What I'm saying is that unless you make your own 'totoalitaria' you aren't doing it right. I suppose your totalitaria can have some similarities with other popular ones, but you have to change it a lot. Creativity shows when one can make his own Dystopian Science-Fiction instead of mooching off of others' stories. Unless you mooch off of others the right way.

You see this is my problem with Fan Fiction. Fan Fiction is great in its deconstructed form, but you can't really tell your own story using the author's main characters. Maybe if you were to tell a story from someone in the lower or upper class (I forgot what they're called in 1984), and wittily include a part from the actual story that would be cool. Or one might do another member of the middle class with Schizophrenia or something, you know? Give it your own spark.

Let straighten things out a bit. I like that you're experimenting with this sort of fiction and in fact it's one of my favorite kinds, but you need to give it a flare, something that sets it apart from other Dystopian Science Fiction.

Finally, if you're going to use freedom as such a huge thing, you've got to think 'what is freedom?' Isn't freedom just being able to choose what to become a slave of?

I'm just stating my thoughts on the subject, which is what you're advocating in this story. So if you shoot me down, I guess you're a hypocrite. You can discuss what I said with me, just don't get all up in arms, alrighty?

I don't think I called you ignorant. Sorry, I was stating my opinion. I don't know social boundaries very well. I don't even know how to delete comments. I have social anxiety... *sigh* it's no use.

Sorry, I'm not saying it's bad, just lacks personal flare?

Why do I even try...

If everyone stood up for what the believed in there would be a blood bath, because everyone believes in something different. You could however adopt "si vis pacem para bellum" as your slogan. But rather interpret it as Peace through inner strength. Because without inner peace the outer cannot exist.

well the point is that, say your teacher asks a question. only one or two raises their hands. it's not that more people don't know the answer, it's that they're afraid to answer because they might get laughed at or ridiculed by other students. this fear makes it so they can't speak out. then there's the pledge of alligence. in some schools, you get punished for not saying it. even on the internet, you could ask a simple question such as "who's that person singing," and instead of getting a straight answer, you get, "oh my god, EVERYONE knows who that is you stupid idiot." do you see where i'm going? we're not sticking up for ourselves against the ones who are making this happen.

I understand your point and agree with the ideal. On a simplistic scale what you are suggesting is wise and practical but on a grand scale it is not possible. Because sticking up for one belief may be wildly different to what someone elses concept of right is. There are many injustices in the world but... what i might consider to be an injustice, someone else does not. Where does it end? I will put it another way... Most reformists are seen either as Moralists or Tyrants it just depends on which side of the fence you are on. Which is right? who decides that? - Another thing to consider is that fear of public opinion has nothing to do with society it is rooted in ego. If you had no ego then you would be utterly fearless of what others think... Just some interesting points that may or may not be worth considering.

Amen to that Doll
I have many personality qwerks that people find "odd" and "out-of-the-loop".
Here are some that they find "odd"
1: I'm smart. I prefer reading over being out and about with kids my own age.
2: I'm 17 and still a virgin. *insert gasping crowd here*
3: I stand up for my friends, whether they're gay or straight, Muslim or any other religion for that matter.
4: I don't wear make-up to the point that I look like a completely different person. (Actually, I don't even LIKE wearing make-up)
5: I see people for what is in their hearts, not for what they're wearing.
6: I don't do drugs.
7: I have MANNERS! I know how to treat people and not be the ass hat teenager that's on tv ALL THE TIME!
8: I listen to real music! With REAL LYRICS!
9: I have a heart, I won't let anyone cry or be beat up. In fact, I would willingly take a strangers place in a beating.
and 10: I know how to save a life instead of ending one.

How's that for a shocker? I'm an actual person. Not a brainwashed Barbie.

Oooh... this is nice. Reminds me of.. of... darn what was that story called? Something with an h... ah well. It was about how the world had become perfectly equal and no one was better than anybody at anything, but everyone had to handicapped because of it. They were controlled by their handicaps that supposedly made them equal, and that "equality" erased individuality. This reminds me of that, being handicapped to both control, equalize, and create a "utopia". Excellent job and wonderfully drawn message.
