Watermark Stamp

okay, I understand certain stock images and music need to be purchased. I even understand stock being royalty free. but DO NOT SAY your clipart, stock images, music, etc. are FREE TO USE and then put a watermark on it! if you say FREE TO USE, that means anyone may use it without with out your permission. it means it is creative commons, public domain, whatever term you choose to use. if it's not okay to use, then don't say it's free, and don't put a watermark on it!

I'm making this because I search for a lot of stock stuff, and I have come across things that claim to be free, but have a nice big watermark slapped across it. and no, it does not say "royalty free," it says free to use. oh! OH! and my favorite is when you're in google images and see a thumbnail of the PERFECT clipart... only to click it and see the tiniest itty bitty practically transparent watermark...

yeah, cool, you just raised my hopes and then brought it crashing down with the world's best tombstone. thank you. so much.

anyway, I still don't take anything that has a watermark because... well, it has a watermark. can't take that, dude! even if they still claim it's free, I don't take my chances with that stuff! but it's the principle! it's either free or it's not, so if it's not, watermark it. if it is, don't watermark it! I've seen it here on DA too, in the stock images/clipart section or whatever it's called. and lemme tell ye, I ain't the only one complaining. *sigh* now that that's outta my system, I'm gonna go draw a monster.

I think a lot of them do it for the preview image so someone can't just right click, but when you download it you get the unwatermarked version. It kind of allows it to register so that they can see how many people use it. The artist can use this to determine what works and what doesn't work so that they may be able to produce purchasable works in the future. Allowing them to right click doesn't allow them to do this.

But if it's on the downloaded image too that is pretty dumb unless its part of a small signature or something.
