Who is Annatier?

Note to readers: Annatier is a fictional cartoon character that was inspired by my personal battles with Manic Depressive Disorder. She is nothing more than a metaphor, and in no way shape or form is she an actual entity or another voice I hear. She represents my thoughts while I'm unstable, and nothing more.



If you've followed my every move, you will have seen Annatier. You'll have seen her in my cartoons, comics, and in general pictures. However, many of you still don't know a lot about her, and there's a reason for that; I haven't gotten the chance to explain much. So that's why I'm writing this, to tell you about Annatier as a character, what she does, and also reveal her secrets. Yes, there are secrets, stuff you will have never thought to go find out yourself.

"Annatier", if you haven't noticed already, is "Reitanna" backwards. It's pronounced "an-na-teer." Unlike Reitanna, she doesn't have a last name, because "Nihsies" just seems tacky. Since she only exists in Reitanna's head, however, she doesn't need a last name.

Reitanna (me) changes her hair color all the time. However, Annatier's hair remains black, even if Reitanna colors her own hair black. Annatier also wears a white headband. If I ever color a picture with Annatier in it, I will often give the headband a very pale tint. Her skin has absolutely no pigment, and she has a mouth full of razor sharp teeth. Her eyes are the most recognizable attribute; her left eye is yellow in color, listless, and her pupil has the inability to dialate. He right eye is nothing but a small black +. Both of her eyes have very dark shadows around them.

Annatier is usually seen smiling. The only time she ever frowns is when she is VERY angry that she isn't getting what she wants, which is usually to manipulate Reitanna completely. However, one of the strangest thing about Annatier is... she doesn't need to blink. Reflect back on cartoons and drawings; it's obvious she has eyelids, but you never actually see her eyes fully closed. It's not that she can't blink, she just doesn't need to, so therefore, she doesn't. She can't even think of a good reason to close her eyes since she doesn't even sleep.

She also wears black, and sometimes dark grey. Not very often is there a lighter color, but every so often, if I need to draw a picture with more detail, I will have parts of her clothes match her headband. If she is presented with clothes that are not already mostly black, they turn black when she touches them. Though, she doesn't actually change her clothes; whatever Reitanna is wearing, Annatier is also wearing something similar, but in black.

"I am your voice of reason. Everything I say is true, and you should always listen to me." This can be both a good thing AND a bad thing. Annatier can be your best friend or your worst enemy. (Well, since Reitanna is the only one that can actually see and hear her, this only affects HER.) Since Reitanna and Annatier are connected by their minds, Annatier has the ability to manipulate Reitanna however she pleases. "I have the power to make you the happiest person in the world... unless of course I decide to do the exact opposite." Sometimes Annatier will sort of play with Reitanna, meaning, they'll act like bestest friends. Annatier is very attatched to Reitanna, and really does love her, but she's an Opheliac, so when she wants something, she'll do all she can to get it. So, because of this, sometimes she'll try to make Reitanna as miserable as possible. Here are the two sides to Annatier:

Good Annatier- When she shows herself, she'll usually tail behind Reitanna, telling her things that make her happy. She speaks very fast when she does this, and sometimes there IS a bit of negativity hidden in her words. "You've become so successful, I'm so proud of you! Look at your life, it's awesome! I mean, you don't even have to worry about everyone hating you because you and your comic are growing at a wickedly fast rate! You know, you should color your hair again, and lets go get icecream! You can eat it even though your fat because you deserve it!" Like I mentioned before, sometimes Annatier will play with Reitanna. If they're out and about, she'll run around with her, and they'll be laughing and having fun. They'll hang out together, being very close to eachother. Often times they are making physical contact with eachother, which is usually holding hands. However, Annatier can go from good to bad in a milisecond.

Bad Annatier- Reitanna is afraid of Annatier when she's like this. The reason is because, even though Annatier looks and sounds as happy as she is when she's good, nothing she says or does is good in the slightest. For one, instead of speaking quickly and rapidly, she speaks very slowly, almost soothingly. "You're worthless. No one loves you except for me. I'm the only one you can trust because everyone WANTS to betray you. They WANT to see you cry. I mean, look at your family. Look at your MOTHER. They are proof that NO ONE can be trusted. But I'll always be with you... even after you die. So maybe we should just get that part over with so you don't have to worry about everyone else anymore. It's easy, there are so many ways to do it..." Reitanna tries her best to ignore these words, but sometimes they get to be too much, and she starts to believe them. When she starts to notice Annatier acting like this, she'll quickly eat her "Happy Candy" to actually make Annatier disappear. Annatier is forced into Reitanna's mind and sits there quietly, watching all of Reitanna's other creations playing around, and waiting until she's able to free herself again. However, if Reitanna doesn't eat her Candy in time, Annatier is capable of complete posession. She can control Reitanna, and often tries to make her harm herself. Sometimes she'll try to hurt others, but not nearly as much as herself. Annatier's goal is to make Reitanna end her life. When this happens, the only way to stop her is to actually contain her and force her to eat the Candy, and wait until Annatier is supressed again. After posession, Reitanna has a hard time remembering exactly what happened.

Another strange thing about Annatier is her voice. It seems to reverberate around the room, eerily and creepily. Not only that, but if you listen closely, there seems to be a secondary voice present. This voice sounds like it's reversed. If you record what Annatier says and play it in reverse, sometimes you'll hear the secondary voice say something COMPLETELY different than the primary voice. These hidden words act as a subliminal message that makes it easier to manipulate Reitanna. However, even when it's reversed, it's sort of hard to pick out exactly what the voice is saying.

Even though no one but Reitanna can see or hear Annatier, she is able to be recorded. Both her image and voice will appear on any type of recording equipment, but there will be a slight interference present, such as noise or static. When Annatier is feeling particularly restless, there will be complete distortion on the recording. However, Annatier doesn't seem to mind being recorded, and in fact, appears to like it. Another strange thing is, in person, others who suffer from emotional or psychological mental disorders can feel Annatier if she's in the vicinity. Again, she is always with Reitanna; she never goes anywhere alone because she can't handle it.

Like I said, Annatier loves Reitanna. If, for some reason, they are forced too far apart, Annatier will go balistic and try to get back to her. When she does, she'll often hug Reitanna and refuse to let go for some time, telling her how much she missed her. This is also one of the strangest things about her.

Other entities are absolutely no match for Annatier. In fact, all of Reitanna's other creations, including Jan, Satan, Koto, and other evil amd malicious characters, are afraid of her. When faced against a danger, Reitanna is able to be protected by Annatier. She doesn't even need to attack the threat; just her presence is enough to drive them away.

All in all, Annatier is the reason for a lot of Reitanna's successes as well as her failures. Reitanna might not always like Annatier, but she's stuck with her for life and just has to learn how to properly suppress her.

I hope this answered a lot of questions about the character and her purpose. Really, Annatier is an attempt to take a serious disorder and make it comical. However, I always seem to draw good Annatier only when I'm manic, and bad Annatier only when I'm depressed. Also, if I ever animate a cartoon with bad Annatier, I will ALWAYS put something funny at the end of the cartoon as a sort of remedy to the shock of how depressing the cartoon may have been.

However, that doesn't change the fact that the thoughts themselves are real. When it really comes down to it, Annatier is a very great and successful character.
