Annatier's Descent- Obsession

isn't it so pretty? I'm actually REALLY proud of this one considering the design isn't based on anything in particular. I used a skeleton as a base again, but DRASTICALLY altered many of the proportions. it also helped me to trace the bones. I traced the intestines, which I'm glad I did or they'd look weird. as for the skin, I had to determine where exactly to show openings and such because I didn't have any reference to go by, but I'm proud of it! you can also see that I used many different textures. it was hard to find bone and intestine worthy textures, and both had to be altered quite a lot, as well as the inside of the skin. doesn't this just make you wanna totally eat food? XD mmmmmm intestines.

alright, so obsession is a very sad and desperate creature, who, just like all of the other entities, speaks with Annatier's voice. however, this one sounds weak and frail, and it honestly just makes you want to hug whatever is making the sound.... until you SEE the damn thing. it's about eight feet tall, bone thin, and walks VERY slowly, looking almost as if it's about to stumble and fall over. sometimes you can hear it cooing sadly from afar, or else just incoherently mumbling.

even though the bones are exposed and the skin is obviously not attached to anything, it's not dripping with blood. there's absolutely no muscle, except for what appears to be one perfectly normal human arm. the skin is stretched over the bones as if it was a mere grade school craft project, and instead of being ripped, the holes and openings are smooth. obsession's bones and skin have some blood stains on them, but like I said, it's not dripping with blood. it IS dripping with petroleum... wait, what? how does that happen?! well, we're not sure how, where, or why, but we do know what and when. small bits of oil will ooze or drip from different places, but not excessively. it's possible that the source of it is inside the skull, judging by the color and texture of the "brain," and it probably travels through the spine to other places on the body. usually you'll see drops of oil on the ground way before you see the actual creature.

obsession doesn't seem to have specific anatomy, and the only internal organs visible are intestines, "brain," and... heart? uh, okay, that's like a heart shaped heart, not a heart heart. it's pink and prettiful! it seems not to be attached in any way, just... floating there inside the ribcage... it pulses very slowly, as if it's slowing to a stop. it also seems to have a few stitched up areas on it, but we're not sure why.

the scalp is the area with the most blood stains, and that's because it's pulled out nearly all of its hair. this represents my trichotillomania, which is an obsessive disorder that makes you CONSTANTLY pull out your hair. I have to wear a hat to keep myself from pulling, and if you pull enough in one area, you can cause bleeding. the eyes, yellow like Annatier's left eye, are bloodshot and are rolled upward, never seeming to actually look at something, though its eyesight is fine. the teeth are rotted, it has no nasal passage or jawbone, and the skull itself looks as if it's just sitting on top of the spine.

there's a huge crack in the skull that exposes the "brain" for lack of a better word. it has the texture of a brain, but never pulses and is a dark color that would definitely alarm a doctor. the crack was caused by obsession banging its head against the wall repeatedly to knock itself unconscious, or even kill itself. obviously its intentions were unsuccessful.

we can't actually see if there's a complete digestive system, but we're pretty sure there's not, only the small and large intestine remaining in the body. its possible that obsession ripped its own stomach out to stop itself from eating so that it can be skinny, and uh... I think it did the trick, don't you? not sure why, but obsession doesn't seem to want to give up its intestines even though it can't digest or produce waste. but sometimes they'll try to spill out, and obsession will have to stop and stuff them back in. they sit piled up in the abdomen (look up a picture of what tight lacing does, and you'll see what I mean).

it seems to have a perfectly normal, female human arm, but there's a bandage wrapped around the elbow. the upper arm looks just like the other arm with the skin taut over the bone. obsession seems to have "repaired" one of its arms, and we're not sure why or how. it's the only part of the body that has muscle mass, and has colored string wrapped loosely around it. under the bandage, there might be stitches holding the pieces of skin together, and the bandage was there from either trying to stop the bleeding or for extra reinforcement.

when you come face to face with obsession, you see that it is crying, sometimes tears, sometimes blood, or sometimes oil. it moans miserably, slouching and shuffling toward you. it'll say things like, "I just wanted to be pretty," "am I pretty?" "I don't want to be ugly anymore," or other related things. well friend, I hope YOU ain't pretty, because if obsession thinks YOU'RE too pretty, its sadness will turn into spite and hatred, and it'll try and take from you whatever it thinks is most attractive. it might be your hair, eyes, skin, or parts of your body. this might kill you! once obsession has taken what it wants from you, it'll sit on the floor against a wall and cling to it like a child holding a teddy bear, continuing to cry and moan. it knows it can't just attach other peoples' pretty attributes to its own body, so it holds it, wishing it could.

eventually that part it took will decay, and obsession is back to trudging around, just wanting so badly to be pretty. hopefully you have some OBJECT with you that is appealing, like a necklace, more colorful string, lipstick, keychain, or even things like googly eyes or stick on jewels, because then you can try to offer it to obsession so you can save yourself... unless obsession thinks you're ugly. if obsession thinks you're ugly, it'll glance at you, but won't do you any harm, just carry on with its moping. whatever you do, don't offer anything edible, because then it'll hurt you for trying to make it gain weight.

if obsession comes after you, you can run, but so can it. it's fast, but because its shins are abnormally short in proportion, it might stumble a bit. hopefully you can be fast enough to find a place to hide. you'll know you're safe when you can no longer hear it's sounds of despair.
