I NEED HELP!!! by Reitanna-Seishin I NEED HELP!!! by Reitanna-Seishin
hokay, so, on ze left you see a dollop or soft serve type thingie, and on ze right, you see my attempt at licorice....

I made these myself, but I followed a step-by-step tutorial for the dollop, and used tools from another tutorial to make licorice. cool and dandy, right as candy, right? gonna use them for my crazy dessert dress.... problem...

HOW THE FUCK DO YOU UNWRAP THESE?!?

I tried asking for help on a blender creator forum, but just like on every forum I ever try to get help on, no one is answering me. I know there are blender creators here on DA, so maybe someone can tell me how to go about unwrapping "twisty" models like this. smart UV unwrap makes it all crazy-go-nuts, and I can't even begin to figure out where I'd put seams for regular unwrapping. I'd say my experience level with this program is between beginner and intermediate, and unwrapping has always been one of my weak points.

anyone, PLEASE, lend me your knowledge!!

When you unwrap you wanna make your seems as not seen as possible, I would circle the underneath then each part that goes inside of the ice cream a little bit would put a seem on it, it all depend on your texture also

Do you want to use a texture? you could try to make a procedural material, and maybe you won't need to map the texture.

I have textures, but I need to unwrap these models. I HAVE to map them.

if you just want to unwrap, in the edit mode you press ''u'' and then you can choose just 'unwrap' or 'smart UV project', and then you get different ways to the mapping.:) (Smile)

If you already know about that, my bad.Sweating a little...

If this is not what you are looking for, sorry.Waaaah!

like I said, I need a neat unwrapping because regular unwrapping and smart UV wrapping make a huge mess, and it's impossible to map a texture. I can't just make a texture in blender, I need to actually map it.

So the only other way that I know to make it is the option 'mark seam', then you will get the divisions exactly as you want.
It's done manually, you select the verts/edges and click in 'mark seam', then when you open the UV image editor, it should appear like you made.:) (Smile) I think I've fainted.

I know that, but like I said, I don't know where I'd mark the seam. I tried a few times, and it still came out messy. you're telling me basic stuff that I already mentioned in the description, and I know you're just trying to help, but this is a bit more advanced.

I made some attempts to mark the seams and, yeah.. in the first that got really messed, but the best result that I had is this one, hope the image shown here. I think this is the less mess that I can get for now... But! all these triangles could be like the one under the others, as you can see it's also possible to put them like a rectangle, but mine still got I little messed, cause the direction of the verts depends on the face reference that you use. But like someone said up in the comments, it also depends on your texture. that's all I could imagine how to do it.

Now I will stop boring you.Sweating a little...  Hope I helped in some way.:) (Smile)

I don't have any level of skill in this myself, but I'll ask some friends of mine to see what they say.
